Overview
About School Framework
Schools are uniquely placed to support children's safety. Children spend much of their day there, and teachers are often among the first adults to notice when something is wrong.
The SSGT School Framework is being developed to help schools bring learning, staff preparedness, procedures and parent engagement together into one coherent approach that complements their existing safeguarding responsibilities.
Intended audience
- School leaders and administrators
- Teachers, counsellors and support staff
- School networks and education authorities
Purpose
To help schools strengthen preparedness so that children receive consistent learning, staff know how to respond, and concerns reach the right qualified people.
Framework components
Six components of school preparedness
01
Leadership and policy
A named safeguarding lead, documented procedures and leadership commitment.
02
Staff preparedness
Staff who understand how to listen, respond and refer appropriately.
03
Classroom learning
A planned programme of age-appropriate safety learning.
04
Parent engagement
Regular, structured engagement so learning continues at home.
05
Referral pathways
Clear, verified routes to qualified protection services.
06
Review and improvement
Regular reflection on what is working and what needs to change.

How it fits the framework
School layer
Provides the structure for school-level preparedness.
Child layer
Ensures children receive consistent, age-appropriate learning.
Parent/Caregiver layer
Includes structured parent engagement.
Systems layer
Aligns school procedures with applicable laws and institutional responsibilities.
Implementation considerations
- Begins with an understanding of each school's existing policies and context
- Requires leadership commitment and protected time for staff preparation
- Referral pathways must be confirmed with relevant local services
- Implementation should be reviewed regularly and improved over time
Safeguarding and privacy
- The framework complements, and does not replace, a school's statutory safeguarding duties.
- Engagement with SSGTGLOBAL does not represent certification or official government approval.
- Records of concerns must be handled according to the school's own policies and applicable law.
An educational and preventive tool
School Framework supports learning and preparedness. It does not replace statutory child-protection authorities, emergency services, qualified professionals or a setting’s established safeguarding procedures.
